Shaping Our Square
On February 28, neighborhood stakeholders met to develop goals and objectives for the neighborhood:

Youth and Socialization
GOAL: Mobilize neighborhood residents to engage the youth of the neighborhood.
  1. Youth have nothing to do after school
  2. Kids feel rejected by elders
  3. No hands on interaction with kids
  4. Adults need to be more accessible to kids
  5. Ideas:
  1. Open Oakdale School building for:
  1. Daycare
  2. B-Ball
  3. Work with the GR Youth Commonwealth
  1. Encourage churches to work with children
  2. Encourage church members to be volunteer staff for parks
  3. Give kids a healthy sense of ownership so that they feel more accountable to take care of the areas
    that they inhabit
  4. Identify elders specializations so that they can work with kids efficiently
  5. Make adults invest
  6. Make sure that adults are relatable

Housing
GOAL: Mixed income neighborhood with stability and diversity
  1. Accountability to neighborhood standards
  2. City that is committed to the neighborhood = neighborhood that is committed to the city
  3. Keep options open
  4. Maintain architectural charm

Health and Wellness
GOAL: Improve the health of neighborhood residents
Collect more info on specific needs & what residents believe could benefit them: How would they see these
services provided?

Business and Employment
GOAL: Increase the availability of goods, services, and employment opportunities in the neighborhood.
  1. Businesses hire from neighborhood
  2. Positive press releases
  3. Light industrial area to hire from the neighborhood
  4. Plan with assets to benefit owners: eg. Lighting, consumer-friendly
  5. Petition signed by residents to bring in businesses that they desire and obligate them to shop there
  6. Put out a monthly newsletter about neighborhood businesses, coupons etc…
  7. Use business lists such as that in the FAN newsletter
  8. Petition signed by residents that we need X business and would promise to shp/trade there X times per
    week.
  9. Neighbors share with media and others as to why being in the area is positive
  10. Consumer needs include:
  1. Restaurant/breakfast server
  2. Pizza
  3. Dry Cleaning
  4. Banks
  5. Professional offices: real estate, healthcare
  6. Coffee Shop

Signage/Maps
New Bus Lines
Bike Lanes
