Front Yard Sitting Gardens

What is a Front Yard Sitting Garden?
A front yard sitting garden is a pleasant place to sit and socialize with friends and neighbors.  It is located
in your front yard near your sidewalk.

The garden can include perennial flowers, vegetables, a sitting bench, and more. It will beautify your yard
and may produce vegetables for your family.

Why Plant a Front Yard Sitting Garden?
A sitting garden can grow perennial flowers, vegetables, herbs, and more. With certain plants you can
create a garden that attracts butterflies or hummingbirds.

A sitting garden is a great place to meet and socialize with neighbors. A bench invites neighbors to sit for a
moment, admire your garden, and chat about the day.

A sitting garden is a pleasant place to relax and enjoy the world around you. You can watch the children
play on your block.  You can greet neighbors as they pass by.

By getting to know your neighbors you help build a strong community of trust and compassion.

How do I Plant a Front Yard Sitting Garden?
Oakdale Neighbors can help you create a sitting garden.

Together we will identify the best location and design for your garden. Oakdale Neighbors will provide a
simple sitting bench, perennial plants and vegetables, woodchips, a landscaping border, and volunteers to
help you plant the garden.  These items are free, but supplies are limited.
